Kenya Trip

 

 Flew out to Kenya to a military camp called Camp Simba.

 This is the plane (c-12) getting refueled at a small Kenyan airport halfway through the trip.

 This was a toilet at the small Kenyan airport...a true squatty potty.

Rafiki Tree! It was very big, probably would have taken

4-5 of us to put arms all around the trunk.

They called it the "tree of life".

 The monkeys were everywhere. Made me feel right at home. ;) get it? ha ha

 

Cool bird nest tree w/really beautiful yellow birds.

Centipedes! These were everywhere too...so cute.

Banded Mongoose in Somalia

 These are Banded Mongoose.

They were roving around the Somalia camp in a group.

They are as big as house cats.

 



Food Inspection in Somalia

MEME: "C'mon be honest. How does my hairnet look?"

 These nice gentlemen are all from the country of South Africa

and manage the dining facility that I inspected.

These pictures are all in the dry storage (pantry) area.

 These are some of the employees...

not sure if they were local or from other parts of Africa.

Kind of a language barrier so I wasn't able to talk with them directly.

Traveling to Mogadishu Somalia

 

 Small 5 passenger plane plus 2 pilots
(and 1 more passenger if they sit on toilet, which someone
did because we brought an extra person with us on the way back)

is through a secure corridor with various checkpoints

and many gates on the side that lead into various compounds

owned by different militaries and companies.

The guy wearing sunglasses at the very beginning and end of the video

where you can only see his head at the back of the plane,

is the one sitting on the toilet. He was a good sport.

What can I say? Saw this on camp and thought, "...I want that."

Camels and Stuff

This is a shack made entirely out of 55 Gallon metal drums that they cut open and flattened.

Camels: Over by the tree there are a couple of Camels. Will eventually try to get a better picture of the herds I saw.

Funny little 3-wheeled vehicles.

Funny signs

Hey to my wonderful family! Below are a few pics I took of signs for you at another camp that I visited.

Above is a "deadly force" warning sign if you cross over into the flight line area for the drones they use. Deadly Force would have also been authorized if I had taken pics of the drones...so I figured it wasn't worth it.

Someone made all these signs to show the distance their camp is from certain areas of the world. Disneyland is only 9,033 miles to the west.
